Sweet Job Advice: Job Search Help - Accepting Help is Key to Succeeding

One of the keys to succeeding to the next level in life is realizing you can not do it allow. We all need each other. The sooner we allow others "in" to help us achieve our goals, the sooner you will achieve your goals.

This same is true with a successful job search , and never more appropriate than now with this job market.

I am here to tell you there are jobs out there, but they will not be found by the shy or faint of heart. You need to reach out, pursue and persist with vengeance.  Keep at the task and maximize your time and efforts by networking and networking and networking. (And asking for help, after you have helped others.

The following is a story some of you may have heard before. Please really listen to the story today. I suspect it will apply to more of you then you care to admit.

I am taking the particular version from The Book of Awakening by Mark Nepo (Sept 18 entry in the book)

"There is an old story about a man who was caught in a flood. First he was called and told to evacuate his home. He calmly refused, saying God would save him. The waters rushed the streets, climbing the foundations of the homes. When the streets were filled, a rescue team in a rubber raft called to him, and he again refused, saying God would save him. The power of the water deepened and the flood was crashing through the windows of his home. He was now perched on his roof. A helicopter came and he still refused, saying yet again that God would save him.

The flood did what floods do and he drowned. On the other side, he was angry and bitterly questioned God. "Why didn't you save me? I kept my faith til the end!" And God perplexed, replied, "I tried. I called and sent a raft and a helicopter. But you wouldn't;t come."

Like the thought of love, God starts in everything unseen, but comes to us plainly in the things of the world.

The bottom line, is that job search leads or opportunities may not come at the time or in the "packaging" that you expect.

The key is to know the job search opportunities are out there. Sometimes in places that you would never expect or predict. Something through someone that you least expect.

The message for today is reach out of yourself and your pride. Go find your next job, you will need to reach out of your comfort zone.

Blessings for you today.

Sweet Job Advice: Job Search Tips from Stephen R. Covey for Your Job Search

Sweet Advice: Job Search Tips from Stephen R. Covey for Your Job Search

I originally started to read, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey in 1989. Sadly I never finished the book. I have picked the book up again, and am re-reading it with the goal of completing it this time. The book is rich with intense content. Have patience with yourself and stay with the book. It will be worth the effort. It will give you additional lessons and insight regarding personal change. Everyone can always improve themselves and their lives by personal and professional re-evaluation.

Being in an active job search or considering looking for a new job is a natural time for re-evaluation.

Read below and use this information to transform your job search and make it more effective.

I wanted to share so far my primary insights, from the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, as I see them helping you with your job search.

To succeed in anything in life, you need to start by:

  1. Plan – What you want your life to be like,

One has to choose to be proactive, chose to be a player and move forward with your job search.

You will not succeed in your job search if you are not proactive. Now more than ever, you need to be the driver of your destiny.

A successful job search has to start with a positive headset, and to use Stephen Covey’s terms from his book, be proactive. You cannot sit on the sidelines waiting for the companies to call you. You cannot succeed operating a reactive job search.

Read Habit 1: Be Proactive page 78.

Proactive Language

Let’s look at our alternatives.

I can choose a different approach.

I control my own feelings.

I can create an effective presentation.

I will choose an appropriate response.

I choose

I prefer.

I will.

Relative to your job search, “grab the bull by the horns”.

Keep me posted on your results.

As always I believe in you!

Warmly,

Eleanor

Sweet Job Advice: Good News for Jobs - Market is Trying!

The labor market is trying to come back.

117,000 jobs were added this last month. This exceeded the expectations by 75,000 jobs. There were also adjustments made to May and June numbers that resulted in a total adjustment of job hiring in the last 60 days.

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Health care and Retail for two of the areas that saw an increase.

Current unemployment rate is 9.1%

The increased that I mentioned was a surprising jump in a positive direction that took the experts by surprise.

In addition the oil prices are dropping from 100 to 86. This will mean in the next 2 weeks a drop of 15 cents a gallon for the consumer. More positive news!

Also the 30 year home mortgage rates are at their lowest since November, rates are 4.3%!

The economy needs 200,000 jobs added each month to help the economy and labor market improve.

One of the most logical solutions is to have the politicians in Washington DC to stop fighting and spending money.

Most importantly if they could get their act together and change the tax laws to reflect tax breaks to businesses that hire, that would be positive and wonderful.

Give business and incentive to hire and a tax break.

Have a great week-end.
