Sweet Job Advice: Job Search Tips from Stephen R. Covey for Your Job Search

Sweet Advice: Job Search Tips from Stephen R. Covey for Your Job Search

I originally started to read, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey in 1989. Sadly I never finished the book. I have picked the book up again, and am re-reading it with the goal of completing it this time. The book is rich with intense content. Have patience with yourself and stay with the book. It will be worth the effort. It will give you additional lessons and insight regarding personal change. Everyone can always improve themselves and their lives by personal and professional re-evaluation.

Being in an active job search or considering looking for a new job is a natural time for re-evaluation.

Read below and use this information to transform your job search and make it more effective.

I wanted to share so far my primary insights, from the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, as I see them helping you with your job search.

To succeed in anything in life, you need to start by:

  1. Plan – What you want your life to be like,

One has to choose to be proactive, chose to be a player and move forward with your job search.

You will not succeed in your job search if you are not proactive. Now more than ever, you need to be the driver of your destiny.

A successful job search has to start with a positive headset, and to use Stephen Covey’s terms from his book, be proactive. You cannot sit on the sidelines waiting for the companies to call you. You cannot succeed operating a reactive job search.

Read Habit 1: Be Proactive page 78.

Proactive Language

Let’s look at our alternatives.

I can choose a different approach.

I control my own feelings.

I can create an effective presentation.

I will choose an appropriate response.

I choose

I prefer.

I will.

Relative to your job search, “grab the bull by the horns”.

Keep me posted on your results.

As always I believe in you!

Warmly,

Eleanor
