Wooden tell us, “Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.”

“You shall love…God with all your heart…soul…strength, and …mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27)

Sweet Job Advice: Job Search Tip - Cooperation and Collaboration

Today’s job search topic is understanding the importance of cooperation and the role it plays not only in our daily lives, but also your job search.

You could be asking at this point, “Eleanor what does cooperation have to do with my job search?” That is a fair question.

Numerous studies regarding how to succeed show that you will achieve your goals faster by reaching out and working with others. This could involve a team in your work environment, a group in your networking organization or some type of mastermind group that you may be involved in. The summation of a group is always more powerful than an individual is by himself.

Reaching out and helping each other is the true name of the game.

If you have not been doing this in your job search, what do you have to lose by trying this idea this week with your job search?

 

Let me share with you a story on cooperation. For those of you that may have been a Girl Scout, Boy Scout or a camper earlier in your life, you will relate to this story. On a personal note I was a girl scout and my son Jonathan is a cub scout.

 

 

When Did You Quit Holding Hands?

 

A troop of Boy Scouts gathered for their annual hike in the woods. Taking off at sunrise, they commenced a fifteen-mile trek through some of the most scenic grounds in the country. About midmorning, the Scouts came across an abandoned section of railroad track. Each, in turn, tried to walk the narrow rails, but after only a few unsteady steps, each lost his balance and tumbled off.

Two of the Scouts, after watching one after another fall off the iron rail, offered a bet to the rest of the troop. The two bet that they could both walk the entire length of the railroad track without falling off even once.

The other boys laughed and said, “No, way!” Challenged to make good their boast, the two boys jumped up on opposite rails, simply reached out and held hands to balance each other, and steadily walked the entire section of track with no difficulty.

 

How easy it was simply working together as a team. When people help each other, freely and voluntarily, there is a spirit of teamwork that can conquer a multitude of problems. When we don’t cooperate, the whole system can fall apart. Reach out to your team me members and fellow job seekers and never quite holding hands.

Today’s lesson is to reach out to those around you and see who you can help first, before you ask for help. Then in turn see how you can cooperate or collaborate together to help each other succeed on the job or in your job search.
