Interview Questions That Change the Game     

 

12 Professional Secrets to a Successful Phone Interview

1. Remember that the purpose of a phone interview is to get the face-to-face interview.  

 

2. Make sure you have a professional, outgoing greeting on your phone for the times you are unavailable to answer.  

 

3. Use a land line for the phone interview as opposed to a cell phone.  

 

4. Make sure you are in a quiet location, far from distractions.  

 

5. If possible, be the one who places the call so you can have control over exactly when the interview takes place.  

 

6. Make sure the time that is set up is specific rather than a large time span.  

 

7. Make sure you allow enough time away from other commitments for the call. A rule of thumb is to allow an hour. Most phone interviews take less time than that.  

 

8. Dress for the session. Studies have shown that you will project yourself in a more confident and professional manner if you are dressed in business attire.  

 

9. Standing up during the phone interview will help improve the strength of your voice and your answers. That is because you will be speaking from your diaphragm. As a result, your voice will be energized.  

 

10. Speak clearly and enunciate.  

 

11. Let the interviewer hang up the phone and end the conversation first. Following this simple yet gracious social gesture leaves the other party with a subtly biased good feeling toward you.

 

12. Don't forget to follow up with a thank-you note within 24 hours.

Job Search Advice Blog: Deepak Chopra A Spiritual Thought Business Leader!


Earlier this month I was fortunate to hear and meet Deepak Chopra. On February 9, 2011, Deepak Chopra spoke about his new book, The Soul of Leadership - Unlocking Your Potential for Greatness. The presentation was held on the Kellogg Graduate School Campus in Chicago.  I did purchase the book following the presentation, where I was fortunate to briefly speak with Deepak.

I found Deepak to be soft spoken, very intelligent, articulate, humble and a private person at the same time. He is one of the best true communicators I have every had the honor of listening too. There is no pretense or showmanship. Deepak is truely Deepak. Something that more of the"thought" leaders could learn from in the current fast paced world of marketing, branding and promotion.

March is my birthday month. I am going to commit reading The Soul of Leadership this month as a birthday present to myself. I will share my insights from the book with you.

 

 

I started re-reading The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra. I wanted to leave you a quote from the book today, page 34:

 

"We lack nothing, because our essential nature is one of pure potentiality and infinite possibilities. Therefore, you must know that you are already inherently affluent, no matter how much or how little money you have, because the source of all wealth is the field of pure potentiality - it is the consciousness that knows how to fulfill every need, including joy, love, laughter, peace, harmony, and knowledge. If you see these things first - not only for yourself, but for others - all else will come to you spontaneously."
