Sweet Job Tips: Job Search Expert Weekly Success Plan

For this week's Job Search Tips I am giving you a time management plan to use with your job search.

Job Search Expert Weekly Success Plan  TM

Ideas for your list:

1. Clean desk and loose papers.

2. Complete all filing and move everything forward in the

43 manila folders if you are using this method.

3. Download or transfer any ideas from the week that you

have not already entered into your job search idea book.

This is a spiral book, measuring approximately 5 x 7.5

inches, where any ideas worth looking into that come

to mind relative to your job search are captured during

the week. You want to confirm that these ideas are being

acted on and researched further.

4. Evaluate your big action plans. Decide which are complete

and which are incomplete.

5. Make sure you have moved forward, updated your

calendar, and marked all action items from calls made

during the week.

6. Review your “Waiting For” list.

7. Review your list of New Contacts/Companies ideas.

8. Make a list of anything that happened this past week

that you could have done better.

9. Give yourself some type of small treat and acknowledge

what you did accomplish this past week.Scoring an actual

interview deserves an extra-special something.

10. Remember to cut yourself some slack.

Sweet Job Tips: Cover Letter Tips That Make the Difference!

For this week's Job Search Tips I would like to discuss
some cover letters tip.

3 Purposes of Your Cover Letter:

1. A business letter to transmit your resume to a prospective employer.
2. A letter of introduction to accompany your resume that
introduces you and your professional background to a
prospective employer.
3. A sales letter to convince a prospective employer that
you have something of value to contribute to their
organization-just enough to motivate them to grant
you an interview.

2 Hints Regarding Your Cover Letters

1. Send your paperwork to a high-level executive within the
company who works in the particular business function ordiscipline most closely related to the position for which you
are applying. Try to get it in the hands of a high-ranking
individual in the job area that is most appropriate relative
to your expertise.
This strategy will increase your odds of tapping into
the hidden job market. At this level, these executives
might be aware of additional positions that have not yet
been offi cially posted but need to be fi lled within the
organization.
A lot of times, even the HR people are not aware of
these future jobs. That being said, if you target high-level
executives, your information will likely be given greater
consideration than it would be by the overloaded HR
department.

2. Cull through your networking contacts and research to
unearth the name of an actual person within the organization
whom you can actually leverage to refer you. Then, if
possible, use the name of that person you have networked
with, either internally or externally, in your cover letter.

Have a great week!

Sweet Job Tips: Winston Churchill

Watch this short 18 second video on Winston Churchill,  this month. He was very well respected for his ability to truly motivate the citizens of England in a time of need.

This is something that can be applied to your organization with your employees relative to your relationship with your customers and competitors.

Winston Churchill -

Winston Churchill - "Never Give In" Speech - 18 seconds long

Winston Churchill

His Wisdom On:

Hiring:

  1. Start at the top.
  2. Ignore the person's current position - get the best person suited for the job.
  3. Keep your plans in mind so they serve your designs, not their own.
  4. Hire large personalities - independent thinkers.

Staff:

  1. Treat with humor and kindness.
  2. Treat as part of the family.
  3. Give complete trust, clear direction and complete support.
  4. Drive hard.
  5. Be quick to apologize.
  6. Be sensitive to personal needs.
  7. Argue with but never overrule your Generals.
  8. Staff should be your primary information feedback loop.

Organization:

  1. De-centralize, simplify structures.
  2. Keep structures flexible for unusual situations.
  3. Delegate responsibility, executives can be more effective by seeing the bigger picture if they are not weighed down with details.

Sweet Job Tips: Resume Accomplishments

For this week's Job Search Tips I would like to discuss your resume and the art of  "accomplishments".

I’d like to share with you some additional guidelines to keep in mind when playing up your accomplishments:

1. If possible, use present/active tense, not passive tense. The result will be that you accomplishments sound stronger.
2. Use adjectives and adverbs as little as possible.
3. When using nouns, make sure they are as specific and descriptive as possible.
4. Always pick the larger but still believable number. For example, if you have a choice between $5,000 and 25%, use 25%.
5. This is so important that it bears emphasis: USE NUMBERS, actual numbers, $ signs, and % signs. The human eye is visually drawn, by instinct, into that area of the paper. Quantify your accomplishments whenever possible.
6. Proofread all your verbs and nouns for agreement, tense, and correct usage.
More people land jobs between November - April every year. Keep working at it.
