Sweet Job Tips: Job Search Tips: LinkedIn Tips

Today I want to share some ideas on networking this week.

I want to share with you some ideas that you may not have tried to use with LinkedIn for networking. This is a section from my new book, (page 133-34)

6 Tips on How to Use LinkedIn for Job Search Networking

1. You can use LinkedIn's search tools to find executives who

are in your target companies. In the search bar, choose the

"Companies" option and enter the name of the company

you're interested in contacting. Under the industry section,

pick "Any Industry" or the specific one you prefer. You

will then be presented with a list of LinkedIn members

who work for that company.

2. Go to the "Companies" tab and try this technique. Select

"Browse All Industries" and select your industry. Look

at every profile that interests you. When you have the

profiles open, look at which "Groups and Associations"

they have listed. This is another area to look for in your

networking endeavors. If it makes sense, join the same group.

3. Consider joining Toplinked at www.toplinked.com. You

should be able to link to its members. This group is made

up of "open networkers" in LinkedIn who should be fairly

amenable to accepting your invitation.

4. Make sure you are working on getting LinkedIn recommendations

from your past supervisors, customers, peers,

etc.

5. Don't forget to look at the "Applications" link on your

LinkedIn home page. Check out which applications you

would like to add to your account.

6. Consider adding the "Polls" function, which allows you

to send a poll about your job search to your list. You will

need to have 150 contacts in order to be able to use this

product, but you will be able to reach everyone faster than

by emailing or phoning them.

There are various products out there that will coordinate

and connect all your Social Networking sites for you. Linking

them all together will save you time. That's because everything

will be updated at the same time. Not only is it a competitive

market out there, but it's also constantly changing technologically.

That being the case, anything you can do to simplify the

process is beneficial.

A additional job search networking idea is to check out www.networkingforprofessionals.com

The market continues to slowly turn.

Hang in there. I believe in you!

Take care,

Eleanor

Sweet Job Tips: Appreciate Your Loved Ones Every Day!

Let's us all not forget a personal moment of silence in memory of all the people this country on September 11, 2001, we lost that day. In addition there are quite a few of the "first responders and all responders" that are now suffering health issues as a result of their sacrifice to help with the aftermath of that day.

I found this poem I  wanted to share with you as a thought for this special day for our country, the author is unknown unfortunately, (Audio version of this is below for you to download to save and share)

If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep,

I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you walk out the door,

I'd give you a hug and a kiss, and call you back for more.

So hold your loved ones close today and whisper in their ears,

How much you love them, and that you'll hold them dear.

Don't forget to live in the present. It's all we really have.

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear "

                                                                                              - Psalm 46:1-2

Focus on being grateful for the good parts of your life today, it will strengthen your heart and your energy for your job search.

Have a great day!

I believe in you.

Sweet Job Tips: YOU the Brand in Your Job Search - Branding Yourself

A very dear friend, Rick Steinbrenner has created his own web site for his job search. Please click below to see his web site.

Rick Steinbrenner's Job Search Website

This is one of the best examples I have ever seen when it comes to "Creating the Brand YOU" (Peter Drucker)

His site is very "content" rich containing not only his "resume" of core competencies and experiences, but it also contains most of the marketing communications work like TV, print ads, informercials, digital and collateral he and his teams developed over the years. In addition, he offers marketing best practices in branding, new product development and advertising which is bloggable and open to feedback from people like yourselves.

Rick is one of the strongest brand marketing executives I know. I think  you will get some great ideas on how to set up your own web site to assist you with your job search. Rick is a "free agent" and actively working on his next career move.

For those of you that are currently employed, I suggest the ideas here are good for you but will need to be modified to accommodate your specific job search.

Rick can also be contacted directly at rick@globalbrandguy.com

Sweet Tips: Support Your Local American Cancer Society Relay for Life Event

View more videos at: http://nbcchicago.com.

This is a clip were I was interview on NBC at 6AM on Sunday morning regarding Relay for Life of Barrington - 2012. I was involved in volunteering doing some of the marketing and events. One of the events I was involved in was "Cake Decorating Contest - 2012" to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

The event was Friday June 8, 2012. We raised so far $388,000!!!!!!!!!!!

This is an example of volunteering and trying to make a difference.

Find something in your community where you can donate one hour a week to help. You will be surprised at how great you will feel making a difference. It will help re-energize you for your job search.

If you would like to donate go to www.relayforlife.org/barringtonil

or your own local Relay for Life, at www.relayforlife.org
